Why do we apply compost to our land?🤔🌍💚 Why do we apply compost to our land?🤔🌍💚

1. Minimal Aroma- Unlike most organic materials and manures our compost has very little aroma due to using natural materials🪵☘️🚜

2.Improves Soil Health- by adding organic matter we are improving soil structure, increasing water retention and enhancing draining💦🪱

3. Provides Nutrients- Contains slow releasing essential nutrients to help crops grow while reducing synthetic fertilisers.🌾

4. Supports Beneficial Soil Life- helps encourage earthworms and microorganisms which also improve cycling and overall soil fertility🐛🪱

These all lead to healthier soils, better crop yields and a more sustainable way of farming🌍💚

🚜 No farm succeeds on its own.

While our family may be at the heart of the business, we're incredibly fortunate to have an amazing team of people around us who help keep everything moving.

To our tractor drivers and farm team.
To our office staff keeping everything organised.
To the mechanics who keep the machines running.
To our agronomists, advisors and suppliers.
To the contractors who lend a hand when we need them.
And to the emergency services who are always there when they're needed…

Thank you.

Farming is a team effort, and we're proud to work alongside so many dedicated people who share our commitment to producing food and caring for the countryside.

This #Farm24, we're celebrating every single person behind British farming—because without you, none of this would be possible.

❤️ Farming isn't just our job—it's our way o ❤️ Farming isn't just our job—it's our way of life.

One thing you'll quickly learn during #Farm24 is that farming doesn't stop at 5pm.

It's early mornings, late nights, missed weekends and doing whatever the weather throws at you. But it's also sharing harvest sunsets, family meals during busy seasons and making memories that last a lifetime.

We're incredibly grateful to our family and friends, who support us through every challenge and celebrate every success along the way.

And while we're proud to be a third-generation family farm, one thing we firmly believe is this...

You don't have to be born into farming to become a farmer.

Farming welcomes people from every background who share the same passion, dedication and love for the countryside.

We feel incredibly lucky to call this our life.

🍞 Every meal starts with a farmer. 🍽️ Whe 🍞 Every meal starts with a farmer. 🍽️

When people think about farming, they often see fields of crops—but those fields become so much more. They become the food and drink we all enjoy every day.

Here's what our 1,400-hectare family farm produces:

🌾 480 hectares of milling wheat produce around 2,880 tonnes of flour—enough to bake an incredible 3.8 million loaves of bread.

🍺 Our barley crop is enough to produce around 14 million litres of beer.

🌼 Our oilseed rape produces approximately 1,485,000 litres of rapeseed oil, found in kitchens and food products across the country.

🐑The sheep we have on the farm over winter produce enough high-quality British lamb for around 32,000 meals.

🌸Our farm also produces 1 million bags of sustainable compost per year too! Along side that the bee's are working tirelessly to produce 1,600 litres of honey.🐝

From the moment a seed is planted to the food on your table, there's months of hard work, careful planning and dedication behind every harvest.

We're incredibly proud to produce food while caring for the countryside for future generations.

Thank you for supporting British farming and following our journey this #Farm24.

🌱 Farming is always evolving, and so are we. L 🌱 Farming is always evolving, and so are we.

Like many family farms, we've had to adapt to help secure a sustainable future for both our business and the land we care for.

In 2022, James launched our composting enterprise, creating an environmentally friendly diversification that works hand in hand with our farming operation. It has allowed us to take some of our more intensive arable land out of production, introducing a five-year rotational break crop that helps restore and improve our soils.

Today, 310 hectares of our farm are dedicated to environmentally friendly crops, helping to build healthier soils, improve biodiversity and create valuable habitats for farmland birds, pollinators and other wildlife.

We're also proud to be home to around 20 million bees, whose hard work plays a vital role in pollinating crops and supporting the rich ecosystem around our farm.

For us, sustainability isn't a buzzword—it's about making decisions today that will protect our farm for generations to come. By combining innovation with traditional farming values, we're working to produce food responsibly while leaving the land in a better condition than we found it.

That's what modern farming looks like, and we're proud to share it with you during #Farm24.

🚜 Welcome to #Farm24! Over the next 24 hours, 🚜 Welcome to #Farm24!

Over the next 24 hours, we're opening the gates to our family farm and sharing what life is really like on a modern arable farm.

Nestled on the edge of the beautiful Lincolnshire Wolds, our 1,400-hectare family farm has grown from humble beginnings. It all started with James' Grandad, Roy, who began the farming venture after recognising the passion his son, Mark, had for agriculture. What started as one family's dream has now become a thriving third-generation farming business.

Today, Mark and James continue to work together, combining generations of knowledge with modern farming practices to produce food, care for the countryside and build a sustainable future.

Whether you've grown up on a farm or have never stepped foot in a field, we hope you'll enjoy following our journey and seeing what goes on behind the scenes.

Thanks for joining us—we're excited to show you around!

After years of working under cover, Colin has finally decided to come out of his bag and join the team. His CV was a bit... dirty, but his references said he was outstanding in his field.

Colin enjoys long naps in the garden centre, helping things grow, and telling everyone he's "well grounded." He's not the sharpest tool in the shed, but he is full of natural talent and never backs down from getting his hands dirty.

Please give Colin a warm welcome... just don't ask him to wear a tie. He prefers a nice bit of mulch. 🌿😂

These cover crops aren't just here to look pretty. They're busy improving soil health, feeding pollinators, fixing nitrogen, and—best of all—providing the perfect "energy source" for our compost.

Just like we need a good meal to power through the day, our compost needs the right mix of green material to get to work. The greener the ingredients, the happier the microbes... and happy microbes make fantastic compost! 🌿🪱

Take a look at our fact sheet to discover how chicory, phacelia, vetch and clovers are working hard both above and below the ground. Nature really does know best! 🌾

🌸JUNE🌸 June has certainly been a busy month 🌸JUNE🌸

June has certainly been a busy month here at the farm, and we're excited to share some of the highlights!

We're delighted to have officially launched two brand-new products – our Lawn Mix and Mulch. Both have been months in the making, and it's fantastic to finally see them out in the hands of our customers. Behind the scenes, we've also been hard at work refining our Chicken Manure product, which is looking fantastic and will be launching in July – watch this space!

This month also saw us welcome Linda Anderson-Smith to the team as our Head of Finance. We're thrilled to have Linda on board and look forward to the experience and expertise she'll bring as we continue to grow.

Out in the fields, we've been busy foraging more green cover to create the ultimate rocket fuel for our compost. Quality compost starts with quality ingredients, and we're always looking for the very best materials to help produce nutrient-rich compost for your gardens.

It has also been a busy month for our sheep! After spending the winter months grazing our green cover crops, they've all had their annual shearing and are now looking much cooler for the summer. Our lambs also attended their very first county show, where Millie and her partner proudly showed four lambs, bringing home 3rd and 4th place rosettes. A fantastic achievement—well done to the whole team!

We also enjoyed a brilliant day out at BBC Gardeners' World Live. It was a wonderful opportunity to indulge in a bit of flower shopping, catch up with fellow horticultural businesses, and see some of the incredible products and innovations being showcased across the industry. Days like these are always full of inspiration.

And finally… harvest is almost here! Over the next week or two, the combines and tractors will be rolling, marking the start of one of our busiest times of the year. If you enjoy seeing life on the farm, make sure you're following us on social media because there will be plenty of tractor videos coming your way!

Happy Father's Day to all the amazing dads out the Happy Father's Day to all the amazing dads out there! 💚

Today we're celebrating all fathers, especially those who inspire the next generation through hard work, determination and a willingness to try something new.

Casswells Eco Green Compost was born in 2022 when fertiliser prices were at an all-time high. James decided it was time to put his own stamp on the family farm and began producing compost.

What started as a huge failure soon turned into an exciting mission when a local garden centre saw potential in the product and wanted to refine it for use in their nurseries. What seemed like a simple venture quickly proved much harder than expected. There were compost heaps that turned to ash after being screened too hot, ingredients and quantities that changed constantly, and lots of learning along the way.

But with perseverance, countless hours of trial and error, and support from professionals and family, James has created a product he can truly be proud of.

Today, Casswells Eco Green Compost not only brings environmental benefits to the family farm, but has also become a premium compost that is flying off the shelves at local garden centres.

It's certainly something James should be proud of – and, more importantly, something his children are incredibly proud of too.

Happy Father's Day, James, and to all the dads showing their children that success doesn't come from getting it right the first time, but from never giving up. 🌱👨‍🌾💚
